Julia Minasian is an internationally recognized commercial artist and surface designer based in the San Francisco Bay. Known for whimsy and color, Julia’s bold geometrics, loose floral interpretations and icon-driven art, are a youthful fusion of international trends and striking original pattern.
Julia’s designs are usually hand painted first and then digitally produced. Her process begins with an exercise on paper of just allowing her hand to sweep the brush onto the page with a flow of color. Gentle breezes from an open window, a lighted aromatherapy candle and music set a great ambiance in her loft studio. It’s here she ‘art dances’ paint to paper adding gesture and nuance. The results are delightfully sensory in color and form.
A B.A. in Art History from Rochester, New York provided a great base for Julia’s career in the Surface Design Industry. In 2000 she went on to attend the California School of Professional Fabric Design where she received two awards for excellence. Since then, she has worked as an in-house and freelance designer for several leading bay area companies including Pottery Barn Kids and Dena Designs, all while simultaneously licensing her art successfully through the industry’s trade shows.
Julia’s designs have sold internationally in small gift shops as well as in national chains including: Target, Ross, TJ Maxx, Home Goods, Tuesday Morning, Walmart, Costco, Macy’s, Bloomingdales, Cost Plus, Meijers and many more.
Her work has featured on products for the following companies:
